58 Miles of Nothing, Ending in a Charming Destination

We biked 58 miles today in cool weather, under overcast skies, with virtually nothing to see en route. There were very few towns, each tiny, and almost no buildings. A dreary bike day, all in all. Then we arrived at our destination: Viborg, a city of 90,000 that is one of the oldest in Denmark, with Viking settlements dating back to the 8th century. Suddenly our day changed dramatically. Our hotel is located right in the middle of town, and we have a spacious, well-appointed room. It even has free laundry facilities, which we availed ourselves of (since we travel with three days of bike clothes and today was our third biking day). We wandered through the old town, dining at a superb restaurant in a 400 year old building.
