We started the bike trip today, leaving Copenhagen and cycling due west (directly into a west wind) all day. Denmark is a wonderful country for cycling, with superb bike paths in the cities as well as the countryside. When we bike in the United States, we almost always avoid bike paths, since they tend to be in poor repair, clogged with pedestrians and roller bladers, and require cyclists to stop at every intersection. In fact, during our 4000-mile cross-US bike trip in 2010, we were on bike paths for only about 40 of 4000 miles, while today all 57 biking miles were on bike paths.
We ended the day in Odense, a 1000-year-old city that's the third largest in Denmark. It was the home of Hans Christian Andersen in the 1800's. It's got a well-preserved old section and superb modern walking/shopping streets.
